Men’s golf begins Sunday with CAA title defense

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, SC – UNCW begins the defense of its Coastal Athletic Association championship on Sunday when it tees off at 9:30 a.m. on hole one of the Cotton Dike Course on Dataw Island.

The Seahawks will be paired with top-seeded College of Charleston and Elon.

The Cotton Dike Course, designed by Tom Fazio, plays to a par of 72 and measures 6,849 yards.

UNCW looks to defend its league title in Dataw, where the Seahawks were powered by a tournament-record 15-under performance in the second round. Walker Isley is ranked in the top 100 nationally and has an adjusted score average of 69.4 in 2023-2024. UNCW is looking for its ninth national title; each of the first seven was part of a back-to-back.

Isley enters the tournament with seven top-10 finishes on the season, including three top-five finishes. This spring, he has three top-10 finishes and 18 rounds of par or better scores.

Patrick Vonken, meanwhile, also returns to defend its conference championship from last year. Sparks shot an 11-under-par 205 for the tournament and won the medalist by four strokes.

The line-up is being finalized Sander Akeren, Ryan O’Neil And Gray Mitchum.
