A fashion show, created by students from Gray’s School of Art in collaboration with CityMoves Dance Agency, will take center stage at Aberdeen’s Anatomy Rooms next week.

This city center event on Saturday 27 April will include two fashion shows, showcasing an incredible collection of work from talented fashion and textile students and Graduates in Residence at Gray’s School of Art.

Organizers hope to attract up to 120 people per show and will present a sustainable collection of women’s and men’s items, designed by students in collaboration with Braemar Castle.

There will also be a collection made from deadstock or sample fabrics from the Harris Tweed Hebrides, designed by second year students, inspired by artefacts found at the National Museum for Scotland. Other second-year students present collections inspired by addiction and escapism.

Other fashion show highlights include third-year collections influenced by anthropology and different cultures, and work addressing decay, preservation and the different stages of mourning.

The organisers, Megan Naysmith and Maya Wilson, graduates in residence at Gray’s School of Art, said: “we are so excited to be hosting Gray’s Fashion Show in the heart of Aberdeen. This is a great way to add vibrancy to our city center and a huge amount of work has gone into preparing for the show, which has been in the works for a year.

Another student organizer, Eve Sinclair-McNally, said: “The big idea of this fashion show is to make it sustainable so that it can continue year after year. By organizing the show ourselves, we have gained valuable experience that will help us when we graduate.”

Charlie Hackett, Fashion and Textiles Lecturer at Gray’s School of Art, said: “The fashion show is run and funded by the Gray’s students themselves and the cast of models includes a diverse range of different age groups from all over the world living in Aberdeen and voluntary part.

The show is a testament to the hard work of the students themselves and will showcase the amazing talent we have at Gray’s School of Art. I would encourage the public to come along and see for themselves what there is to see!”

Hayley Durward, CEO Citymoves Dance Agency said: “Citymoves is delighted to be hosting Gray’s Fashion Show at our dance studio in the Anatomy Rooms this year. We continue to expand the use of our spaces to include events that contribute to the cultural sustainability and vibrancy of Aberdeen city centre.”

The hair, make-up and DJing are all done on a voluntary basis, while more students in the fashion and textile sectors are volunteering as dressers and helpers.

The collections on display will also be featured in the upcoming Gray’s Degree Show, opening to the public on June 8. There will be two fashion show showings on Saturday, April 27: an early show at 6:30 PM and a later show at 7:30 PM.
