“Hardik is dealing with mental health issues,” says Robin Uthappa

Hardik Pandya | BCCI IPLHardik Pandya’s captaincy at Mumbai Indians (MI) did not get off to the best start. The all-rounder completed a high-profile transaction from Gujarat Titans (GT) to MI ahead of IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma as skipper.

Under his leadership, the five-time champions have lost four of their seven matches so far and sit in the bottom half of the ten-team points table.

Moreover, Hardik is also facing reactions from the audience at various locations, including loud boos and ‘Rohit, Rohit’ chants.

Meanwhile, former India opener Robin Uthappa recently made a big statement about Hardik Pandya, saying that the booing has resulted in ‘mental health issues’ for the all-rounder.

Uthappa also extended his support to Hardik’s side and said that the treatment he has received from fans is unfair.

“He is a man who has the caliber and potential to be an all-time great player for the Indian team. He was let go by the team that discovered him and went to another franchise. After playing with them for three to four won titles, he left. He must have felt a little bad; he went to GT, won one title and finished second in another. Uthappa said on The Ranveer Show on YouTube.

“The mocking, trolling, the memes about his condition. Don’t you think it hurts him? It hurts him. It hurts every human being. How many people actually know the reality of it? Hardik is dealing with mental health issues because Sure .I understand that we, as Indians, are emotional. But it is not right to impose this kind of treatment on a human being. We should not laugh at it. We should not forward these memes.

“It’s our job, yes, it’s passion too, but it’s what puts food on the table for me. My work is on display for you to criticize. It’s not a corporate person’s job to criticize on television , or to have an opinion about it. If that is the case, you have to exercise a certain amount of empathy and dignity towards the other person to allow him or her to fail One of the greatest things we have done as a country is our expression of love and our reaction to our Indian team after losing the World Cup. This is how we should be as a society and as Indians.” he added.

In the first seven matches of this season, Hardik Pandya has scored 141 runs at an average of 23.50. On the bowling front, the all-rounder has collected just four wickets and leaked runs at an economy rate of 11 RPO.
