Emmett J Scanlan talks Future Of Kin ahead of Netflix debut

After a hugely successful run on RTÉ and the BBC, Kin is set to take over another viewing platform, with its arrival on Netflix imminent.

Chat with Extra.ie on the IFTA red carpet on Saturday, the hit show’s star Emmett J. Scanlan opened up about the future of the series.

The sun and stars came out on Saturday evening as the great and good of the Irish film and TV industry celebrated one of its best years.

Scanlan, who plays Jimmy Kinsella, discussed the success of the hit RTE show and shared his excitement at its acquisition by the streaming giant.

‘I’m very enthusiastic about that. The way our country responded to Kin was exceptional. It blew us away.”

“So to be able to put it on Netflix on May 1, an even bigger platform where it’s accessible to even more people, to make Kin a conversation on an even bigger scale, is very exciting for me. I hope they love it.’

Fans were devastated to hear that the popular RTÉ series may not get a third season. Even after its success on the BBC, there is still no sign of another season being greenlit.

However, hopes could rise again if the Netflix numbers turn out to be just as good.

The second season, which debuted on RTÉ One in 2021, aired in Ireland last year and was a huge hit with fans and critics alike, with the BBC broadcast being hugely popular.
