University of Tennessee is introducing a Taylor Swift-themed course this fall

The University of Tennessee is preparing to launch a Taylor Swift-themed course in the upcoming fall semester.

This unique offering will delve into various aspects of the pop star’s influence on popular culture and the music industry. The course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of Taylor Swift’s celebrity impact and career strategies.

Details of the course

The course, known as Gender/Media (Taylor’s Version), is led by film studies professor Darcey Morris. The course, scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:10 a.m. to 11:10 a.m., aims to explore Taylor Swift’s broad social, economic and cultural impact on the media and film industries.

According to The daily beaconthe student newspaper of the University of Tennessee, the course will cover topics such as fan culture, celebrity culture, girlhood, music industry ethics, marketing and promotional strategies, social media theory, race, sexuality and feminism.

“We will talk about Taylor Swift from every possible angle,” Morris said. “She expresses so many unique female experiences through her songs. And also just complex human emotions, in ways that are powerful and really resonate with people.”

Professor Morris highlighted the significance of Taylor Swift’s music in expressing unique female experiences and complex human emotions.

Furthermore, the course includes not only enjoying Swift’s music videos, concerts and films, but also critically examining her business decisions, lyrical content, aesthetics and public persona.

Taylor Swift’s career milestones

Thanks to Taylor Swift’s remarkable career, her recent Eras Tour made history as the highest-grossing music tour, generating more than $1 billion in revenue and contributing more than $6 million to the United States economy. Swift’s enormous success in the music industry is clearly demonstrated by this huge achievement.
