KOCHI: Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his controversial speech at an election rally in Rajasthan on Sunday, AICC general secretary (organization) and Alappuzha’s UDF candidate KC Venugopal said the prime minister is spreading lies and trying to create communal polarization in the country .

“Modi’s hate speeches reveal his fear of elections. He knows that the election tide will turn in favor of the INDIA bloc after the first phase of elections,” Venugopal said in Kochi on Monday.

“Modi is spreading untruths and trying to create division in the community by misrepresenting the Congress manifesto and spreading misinformation about it.”

During his speech in Rajasthan, Modi claimed that if the opposition won the elections, they would redistribute the wealth of the public to the Muslims.

Venugopal called Modi’s speech “the most terrible hate speech in history” and noted that Congress opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in Parliament, with Rahul Gandhi emphasizing that CAA would not be implemented on the basis of religion.

Congress president Mallikarje Kharge has requested a meeting with the Prime Minister to present the party’s election manifesto. Venugopal stated that Congress leaders and candidates are sending a copy of the manifesto to Modi.

The party also plans to file a complaint with the Election Commission against Modi’s speech.
