Woman hospitalized after drive-by shooting disrupts family reunion in SW Miami-Dade – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Bullets flew in a southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood, causing panic among those attending a party and sending a woman to the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.

Miami-Dade police and fire units responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area of Southwest 171st Street and 104th Avenue, near West Perrine Park, on Saturday evening.

Officers arriving on scene found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the back.

The victim was attending a family reunion at the time of the incident. Witnesses at the meeting said it was a drive-by shooting.

“I saw a Dodge, a blue Dodge driving down at a high rate of speed, and I saw three girls get out, and they started shooting,” said a witness who identified herself as Natasha, “and there was also a white truck up ahead the street.”

More than 18 bullets were fired around 6 p.m

Witness Tracey Walker told 7News that a threat was posted on social media hours before it all happened.

“This morning on Facebook (a post said), ‘Don’t come to this reunion because it’s going to be shot,’” Walker said. “It was written from this morning.”

Officers cordoned off an entire block in the area for hours while they investigated.

Paramedics transported the patient to Jackson South Medical Center in unknown condition.

“Truly saying that we can’t come together and love each other without gun violence,” one woman said. “Honestly, we’re trying to control this, but if the kids’ parents don’t tell us what’s going on, we’ll never be able to control it because parents know what their child is doing.”

Police have not provided any further details about the incident or possible subjects as they continue to investigate.
